Knitting lately

Right now Maddy is busy knitting up little kittens waldorf style and so why not knit them with a lap full of real kittens, too? Makes my heart full and happy to see her taking such joy in something I love so much.

Sweet kitties are creeping up on four weeks old and slowly becoming more playful. This one is Maddy’s favourite and was fascinated by the yarn, eventually reaching out a tiny wee paw to grab at it. So cute.

And I am busy working on another pair of shorties for Piper who seems to be in perpetual need of a new pair. They keep on disappearing somehow, or maybe we lose them or she grows out of them or maybe even some mischevious faery comes in the night and whisks them away to use for a blanket. I have no idea, but it’s a good thing I quite like the mindless repetition of knitting them over and over. Using some favourite malabrigo merino worsted in dusty and milonga for this pair.

Remember the bunny pattern I was working on? Well I ended up making four of them, and finished all four up just in time on Christmas Eve (yes, I was still sewing their pieces together at around 1am…but I got it done!) and I am pretty pleased with how they turned out. I settled on very simple embroidered faces and although I did each one in more or less the same manner they each seem to have a slightly different personality. The one above is the bonus bunny I started while we were away, however I ran out of yarn so I made the ears much shorter to try and stretch it out. I ended up running out of time to finish him up while we were away anyway and had plenty of yarn at home, but I think they look pretty cute like that and left them as is.
